In 1920, brothers Felice and Mario Beretta opened their first butcher and charcuterie shop located in Barzanò. Felice and Mario then expanded their distribution of cold cut meats across Italy before entering the large-scale retail trade in 1970. The Beretta group was the first to provide retail Italian charcuterie pre-sliced products.
In the 1980’s, we began our global expansion, opening factories in the USA and China. Today, we have four factories in the USA, one in China and 25 in Italy and we export our products to 72 countries across the world.
PGI and PDO accreditations were first developed in 1992 by the European Union. These accreditations give legal protection for named regional food products against imitation across the EU.
Fratelli Beretta own the biggest range of Italian charcuterie PDO/PGI products.
PGI – Protected Geographical Indication
Protects regional foods that have a specific quality, reputation or other characteristics attributable to that area. PGI stops other manufacturers outside of a region copying a regional product.
PDO – Protected Designation of Origin
Products are produced, processed and prepared in a specific area. They use a particular and usually traditional production method and recipe. The whole process is strictly under control.
